The Difference between Industrial Wireless Routers and DTU
An
industrial-grade wireless router is an IoT wireless communication router that
transmits network signals only to the desired port. The gateway can convert
standard Ethernet and industrial Ethernet, wireless and wired interfaces, or
Ethernet and fieldbus communication protocols. Data Transfer unit (DTU) is a
wireless terminal device specially used to convert serial port Data into IP
Data or convert IP Data into serial port Data for transmission through wireless
communication network. Just like DTU, industrial router realizes wireless
network data transmission function, and the difference between the two is
mainly divided from three aspects, namely appearance interface, usage method
and application environment.
Different shapes and ports:
Industrial
wireless routers provide multiple network interfaces for data access.
DTU
generally provides serial port access.
Different ways of use:
Industrial
wireless routers can convert standard Ethernet and industrial Ethernet
protocols, wireless and wired interfaces, or Ethernet and fieldbus
communication protocols. Only the IP address of the terminal network port is
needed as the gateway. The terminal equipment must use the specified IP address
or address in the specified IP address segment to exchange data with the server
host in the specified IP address segment or the server host in the IP address
segment. All other addresses that are not set cannot be communicated.
The
purpose of DTU is to dial, not to be a gateway in the real sense. For example,
after the DTU of serial interface finishes dialing in the access terminal
device, it is a new network device of terminal device, and the address of
terminal device is the address of the new network device binding.
Different applications:
Industrial
router can support APN/VPDN special network, and add another layer of encryption
transmission on the basis of special network, which is more suitable for
applications such as traffic monitoring, security monitoring, financial
self-service terminal networking, street lamp monitoring, power monitoring and
other occasions requiring massive data real-time transmission. In addition, industrial 4G routers
with WIFI function are suitable for outdoor WIFI
wireless signal coverage projects and similar public transportation WIFI.
DTU
is suitable for applications where the transmission distance is dispersed and
the data communication rate is appropriate. In general, the real-time
performance of DTU can meet the requirements of most industrial applications.
However, for some specific applications, it may not be appropriate if the
average delay of 1-2 seconds or so cannot be sustained.
